Ocean Shores Meets Medieval Times

Writer's picture: Jennifer WakemanJennifer Wakeman

Have you ever been on the Washington Coast and just had a strong hankering for some Medieval flair? Well, we certainly have been there! Put on your chain mail (if you forgot yours, they have some to borrow, so no worries), grab your goblet, and fly on your dragon over to the Medieval Villa at Shorebirds Villas in Ocean Shores, WA for a fun knight (See what I did there?)

As soon as you walk in, you are through the threshold, you are zapped

back to the 11th century. The walls are covered in gray, thick bricks (they're actually Styrofoam and they did an incredible job of making it look real!), dark wood accents are plentiful, and dragons surround you. I especially loved the wood-burning fireplace. Nothing makes you feel like Richard the Lionheart more than a wood-burning fire on the inside of a house.

With the living room, kitchen, and bathroom on the first floor, you climb a spiral staircase up the bedrooms on the second floor. As soon you crest the last stair, you are greeted by a stunning daybed. This was my favorite part of

the whole villa. It had a gorgeous stained glass window behind it and was framed by golden drapes. Did I sleep here at night when there was a perfectly large chamber fit for a queen-sized bed? Yes. Was it cramped? Yes. Was it incredible and made me feel like royalty? Absolutely.

There were two other beds, snuggly fit in their perfectly themed medieval chamber. The master bedroom had a knight helmet/dragon-crawling-around lamp. I had to tell Tyler there was no way we'd be buying one for our bedroom at home. It doesn't fit with the 21st century theme we've got going on back home.

This place was really a fun getaway and was only one block away from

the beach. Ocean Shores was a quiet beach town that has quite a bit to offer in way of charm, local restaurants, and entertaining shops. Our favorite was Sharky's, a shark themed gift shop! You have to enter the jaws of a great white to get to the goods.

Be sure to check out the Medieval Villa for your next Washington Coast trip. It may finally give you the chance be you've been waiting for to bust out that lute and serenade your family.
