Ocean Views, a Lighthouse, and Ghosts

Holy guacamole. If you are looking for the most stunning views of your life, do I have the place for you. Heceta Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast is right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We have never stayed in a more breathtaking place as this one! Our room's entire view was of the waves crashing on the beach. We opened our window to just listen to the waves all night. The sea breeze rustled the curtains like we were in a Hallmark movie. It was perfect.

The bed and breakfast took over what used to be the Keepers House for the Heceta Lighthouse. Built in 1894, this almost 130 year old building has a lot of history and charm to it. It stopped being a Keepers House in the 30s and was sold for $10. I'm sorry, what? I know it was probably in total disrepair, but like, I could live in a tiny box with that view and be happy for the rest of my life. Anyways, it came to be the B&B that we know and love in 1995, and I am forever grateful for that!

When we rolled up to the B&B, the innkeeper greeted us and

took us up to our room. We got settled in, gawked at the view, and then went downstairs for a social hour. There was free wine

and cheese! Even if there was a view of a dumpster, free wine and cheese would keep me coming back. After sitting in the dining room for a few minutes, we realized nobody else was there and they had all taken their wine and cheese to their room. Okay, whatever losers. So, we took ourselves out to the back porch and enjoyed the incredible views while we sipped on our wine.

After a bit, we headed up to our room and enjoyed the sunset from our window. It looks like something in a calendar...it was too much!! When it became dark, we walked from the house to the lighthouse. It was wild to think that an innkeeper would constantly make this trek to take care of the lighthouse. You go through the woods and it's a little creepy, I'm not going to lie...but what an interesting life that must have been! When we got to lighthouse, nobody was there and we had it all to ourselves. We've never been to the base of a lighthouse at night, and it was an awesome experience.

After spending some time watching the light float around the ocean, we went back to the house and sat in

the main seating are downstairs to read some of the ghost stories the B&B provided. These were from builders of the B&B and guests. Do I believe in ghosts? No...but they're still fun to read! From this book, I learned that The Fog was filmed right there, at the lighthouse. That movie TERRIFIED me as a kid.

After reading about the ghosts, we microwaved some Totino's Pizza Rolls, like every adult does on vacation, and took them to our room. We offered some to Rue, a resident ghost, but she didn't want any I guess. *Shrug* More for us then, Rue.

In the morning, we went downstairs for the included breakfast. Except, this wasn't just any breakfast...it was a SEVEN COURSE BREAKFAST. It was an hour and a half experience that I will never forget. It was delicious! Many of the ingredients are all procured locally and the herbs are from their garden right outside. Each course is explained and I honestly didn't get any photos because I was that immersed in the whole experience.

When we checked out, we walked over to the gift shop and picked up a small Heceta Lighthouse Christmas ornament to add to our tree. We LOVE getting ornaments of the places we've visited, a tradition started by my mom! We left to our next destination, but this was one place I seriously will remember forever! If you want to stay at the Heceta Lighthouse B&B, you will NOT be disappointed.
